Wings of Hope (Painting Exhibition) and Donation of Medical Insurance Policy - 9th & 10th March, 2013

Manu Sharma serving a life sentence in the Jessica lal murder case and presently in Tihar jail, has adopted 460 children of Inmates who are serving time in jail. A function was held at 'India international Islamic centre' where actor Raj Babar, Jimmy Shergill, Shilpa Shukla (Chak de India), wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt & former chief justice of Kerala and Karnataka High Court were chief guests.

In a letter addressed to the guests by prisoner Manu, he wrote about the difficult times in prison & said "But all this changed, the day I realized that the people in jail are not the real sufferers, the real sufferers are the children of inmates in jail. What these children go through is many a time worse than what inmates in jail have to go through."

He spoke about extreme poverty and stigma the children have to go through; he says that "We find many charters and declarations of human rights, National & International laws and manuals dedicated to describing the rights of prisoners. But surprisingly I am yet to come across any law, charter, or manual which prescribes or outlines the rights of these children."

Manu goes on to say that he has committed his life to service for the children.

The chief Guests also applauded the effort being made by the trust run by Manu called 'Siddhartha Vashishta Charitable Trust'. Justice Sodhi appreciated the noble effort and said that in his long career he has come across few people who turn a leaf in their life and make a difference to the lives of others. Raj Babar said that Siddhartha is well and truly on his way to becoming Gautam Buddha and told him to carry on the good work. He continued by saying that he is happy to see how Manu has taken his misfortune positively and is trying to do the right thing. Jimmy SherGill (actor in sahib biwi and Gangster) gave his love and best wishes to the children. Shilpa Shukla and Subhi Mehta said that the children are the building blocks of society and we all should help them and that there are thousands of children who need help, they also said that it is difficult to run such a big effort while being in jail and commended the trust's efforts.

Manu's sister read out his letter which was followed by a painting exhibition 'Wings of Hope' that represented the paintings made by present and past Tihar jail inmates. The guests were very happy to see the many colour's of the inmate's paintings. Ustad Kamal Sabri also presented a piece for the audience.

The Siddhartha Vashishta Charitable Trust started by Manu from jail is running three programs - For the education of children of jailed inmates, cancer awareness and chance for change where they give employment to released inmates.
